TEA Accountability Reports
Starting with the 2012-2013 school year, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) revamped the way it evaluates schools. The old four tier rankings of Exemplary, Recognized, Academically Acceptable, and Academically Unacceptable were removed. They were replaced with Met Standard and Improvement Required. For schools that earned a Met Standard rating, they could also garner Distinction Designations. These Distinction Designations are obtained when an individual school is compared to other similar schools from around the state when examining characteristics such as campus size, percentage of economically disadvantaged students, mobility rates, English proficiency, etc. Therefore, these Distinctions do not necessarily mean that the schools earning them are better than schools not earning them, but simply how they compare to similar-type schools.
