This Vintage Austin picture features the Paramount Theater in 1936. Originally opening its doors in October of 1915 under the name Majestic, it was renamed the Paramount Theater when Karl Hoblitzelle purchased it in 1930. In 1934, it became the first theater in Texas equipped with “Wide Range" sound technology and underwent an expansion, increasing its seating capacity to 1,421. During this era, the theater featured films from Paramount Studio, occasionally accompanied by live musical performances. Despite facing various challenges over the decades, the Paramount Theater has showcased performances by renowned figures from both the music and theater worlds.
