Vintage Austin: Montopolis Bridge
The Montopolis Bridge, in east Austin, is seen in this 1934 Vintage Austin photo. In the summer of 1935, flooding destroyed the Montopolis Bridge, along with four other bridges crossing the Colorado River. The new Montopolis Bridge was built, opening to traffic in 1938, and is the historic truss bridge we see today! Although, since October 2018, the bridge has been used soley for bicyble and pedestrian traffic.
