Staging With Deer Heads?
Proper staging can be the difference between selling or not selling your house, and I have a perfect example to share with you. If you'd like to read the information, you'll find the text below the video.
Are five deer heads mounted on the wall a good idea when showing a house? Well, if you live in North Dakota, it’s not a problem, but around here, I’d suggest you take them down. In fact, I did that about 20 years ago. Back when homes often took 2 to 4 months to sell, I had shown one particular home to about six different clients. Each time we went upstairs, my clients were surprised by the five deer heads and seemed to not pay any more attention to the home. When their house didn’t sell after six months, the seller asked me to be their new listing agent. I told them to take down the deer heads. The wife turned to her husband and said “I told you to take them down.” Well, I listed the house, they took the deer heads down, and we sold the house in less than a month. Having grown up in hunting in a rural area, deer heads don’t bother me, but they do seem to bother some buyers. You just have to understand your target audience. That’s one of the reasons I have a professional stager consult with my sellers before putting a home on the market.
