RVs and Tiny Homes

Austin wants people to live in RVs and tiny homes.  At a city council meeting on September 14th, the council instructed staff to draft an ordinance that would permit RVs and tiny homes to be used as permanent residences in neighborhoods zoned for single-family use.  This change would mean RVs can be hooked up to the city sewer system for full-time occupancy.  Once the council passes this, and I assure you that they will, I expect we’ll see another lawsuit as this proposed ordinance appears to be another blanket rezoning allowing multiple families to live on lots zoned for single-family use.  Austin’s elected officials have been trying for years to change zoning across the city, but continue to lose in court for violating state law while trying to do it.  We’ll have to see how this ordinance is written, but I have early doubts the courts will allow it.
