Population Prediction
Bigger than the Big Apple. A recent study by a website called MoveBuddha predicted that Austin would be the third largest metro area in the country by the year 2100 with a population over 22 million people. It also had Dallas/Ft Worth as the #1 metro area in the US, followed by Houston. This study is based on current trends extrapolated out all those years. I think we can all agree that it’s unlikely the migration patterns of the last ten years will continue on the same trajectory for the next 75 years. But, Austin and the rest of Texas are going to continue to grow for the foreseeable future. For what it’s worth, NYC dropped from number #1 to #5, Los Angeles from #2 to #7, and Chicago, the currently #3, dropped completely out of the top 10. I wish I could find some predictions from 1950 to see how well those predictions turned out today.
