Pet Peeve: Top Producer
I have a lot of pet peeves about real estate. One of them is the use of the phrase ‘Top Producer.’ You’ve probably heard an agent claim to be a Top Producer, but what does that mean? Frankly, it means nothing. There is no common definition of what makes an agent a top producer. There’s no central entity that confers the Top Producer status to agents. There are no geographical, numerical, or financial parameters. Someone can sell five houses in a year and claim the mantel. They certainly weren’t among the most productive agents in their city or their brokerage, but hey, maybe they sold more than anyone else in their family so they boast about it. I find that most people who call themselves Top Producers really aren’t. The agents who do sell a lot of real estate tend to let their track record speak for them.
