No One Wants to Do It But You Need To

This is what can happen if you don't have a will....

If you don’t have a will, stop messing around and get one done. I just had to break some bad news to a woman who has lived in her house for almost 30 years. Why? Because her husband didn’t write a will. Without giving all the backstory, it turns out that this widow’s sister-in-law owns half the house. How’s that for a kick-in-the-mouth. The husband just assumed his wife would get the house, but not in this case. Now, I’m not saying you need to set up a trust or get complex with estate planning, but I am telling you that, at a minimum, you should have a will. It’s not for your sake, it’s for your heirs. Do them a favor and take care of it. I handle a lot more home sales from probate and estates than most agents. In my experience, the issues that arise from those who die without a will are numerous and preventable. I get that death isn’t a topic with which people want to deal, but do the right thing and get the basics squared away.
