Discover Austin: The HEB Center - Episode 36

The HEB Center in Cedar Park is home of the Texas Stars and Austin Spurs.  Along with those two permanent residents, the area hosts many other events throughout the year including many family friendly shows.  You can find a list of upcoming events on the HEB Center website.

The HEB Center at Cedar Park is a fabulous multi-use entertainment facility that hosts more than 150 events a year.  It has two permanent sports residents.  The Texas Stars are the minor league affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars and the Austin Spurs are the D-League affiliate of the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.  Visiting throughout the year are a variety of family shows.  Of course, the shows aren’t the same every year, but regular entertainers include the Harlem Globetrotters, Cirque-du-Soleil, Disney on Ice, and the Shrine Circus.   You never who might show up to give a concert, but past shows include George Strait, Paul Simon, Rascall Flatts, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Brad Paisley.

The HEB Center opened in 2009 at a cost of $55 million.  It’s owned by the City of Cedar Park and sits on 31 acres.  The arena sits approximately 8,000 people, but it depends, of course, upon the seating configuration for each specific event.  Premium seating is also available.  There are 20 suites available on an annual basis and four party suites available just for an individual event.  The HEB Center also has club seats available.  Located in a prime section of the arena, this area has extra-wide seats, in-seat food service, VIP access to the club lounge, and even a buffet before select events.

Speaking of food, there are plenty of concessions available throughout the HEB Center.  Enjoy hot dogs and beer, pizza, sandwiches, Tex-Mex, of course there’s BBQ, and much more from any of the six concession storefronts.  You’ll also find a host of snacks available at portable carts throughout the arena.

The HEB Center is used to hold graduation ceremonies by numerous school districts in the area.  It’s also available to rent for private events utilizing space as small as meeting rooms all the way up to the full arena.  And with 2700 parking spaces, there’s plenty of room to park.

There wasn’t much around the HEB Center when it opened, but now there are plenty of restaurants, hotels, and shopping nearby.

The HEB Center is a great place to catch entertainment for the whole family.  From sports to concerts to special events, there’s sure to be something you’ll enjoy.  I’m Craig Smyser with RE/MAX Capital City.  Thanks for joining me for this episode of Discover Austin.
