Discover Austin: Red Bud Isle Park - Episode 51

Red Bud Isle Park is not specifically a dog park, but a designated off-leash area. Keep in mind, you don't have to bring a dog to enjoy the park or to watch the dogs swim and play.  If you'd prefer to read about Red Bud Isle, the transcript can be found below the video.

The Austin Park system has about a dozen designated off-leash areas and one of Max’s favorites is Red Bud Isle.  This 13-acre park is located at the top of Lady Bird Lake, just south of Tom Miller Dam.  There are several paths that are quite wide and made of crushed rock.  They’ll get you around the whole island but feel free to get off the beaten path and wander through the woods.  If your dog likes to chase squirrels or birds, there’s plenty of opportunities.  Since it is an island, there are, of course, numerous areas for your dog to swim.  Red Bud Isle is a popular park, so there are sure to be other dogs around to play with your pup.  I do want to point out, that this isn’t a dog park, per-se, just an off-leash area.  So feel free to come enjoy the park without having a dog with you – but do expect there to be a lot of dogs running and swimming.

Before you visit Red Bud Isle, there are several things you need to know.  First, there are fewer than 20 parking spots which means you may wait in line to park.  Second, there are no water fountains, so come prepared with plenty of water for you and your dog.  But not too much water, because there aren’t any bathrooms, either.

As a real estate agent, let me take a few minutes to share a bit about the housing market overlooking Red Bud Isle.  If you like the view from here and have a budget starting around $4 million or $5 million, let me know and I’ll be happy to help.  Of course, if your budget is not that high, I can still help you find a home, but it won’t be one of these.

If you’ve got a dog, I encourage you to visit Red Bud Isle Park – especially if your dog likes to swim.
