Discover Austin: Lonestar Round Up - Episode 96

I'm all revved up because I'm headed to Lonestar Round Up! Join me as I (and thousands of other car lovers) admire hot rods and custom cars from across the country for the latest episode of Discover Austin. If you'd prefer to read about the event, the transcript can be found below the video.

Geetings, I’m Craig Smyser with 1835 Realty.  Once a year, hot-rod and custom car enthusiasts from across the country gather in Central Texas for a multi-day extravaganza.  We’re going to visit the Lonestar Round Up on this episode of Discover Austin.

What started as a one-day event with a lot fewer cars back in 2002, the Lonestar Round Up has become a long weekend event with cars as far as the eye can see.  Now top billing goes to the hot rods, but you are going to find a lot of cars here as long as they meet the qualifications as built in 1963 or before.

The cars are divided into various sections.  Be sure to visit Feature Hill which the organizers consider to be some of the top attractions because they are great cars, unique cars, or have an interesting story.

As you move through the rows of cars, you’ll find that some of the cars owners hang out nearby so you can visit with them about their cars.  Some have the hoods up so you can check out the engine.  Others have the windows open so you can pop your head in.  It’s a very relaxed atmosphere.

If you’re looking for a car part or accessory, odds are you going to find it here at the swap meet.  The swap meet area also has signs, collectibles, and other items.

While the official, main event is here, there are other side events that take place around the whole area.  Designed for those who have cars in the show, there are often live music events at places like the Continental Club or meet-ups at places like Top Notch Burgers so don’t be surprised if you see the hot rods and classic cars popping up all over town.

As you can imagine, there’s plenty of food and drink available while you’re out here.  As for me, I’m super content just knowing that I can get Lono’s and follow up it up with Amy’s.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper event in Austin without live music so there are a lot of acts who perform on the stage throughout the car show.

General admission tickets are good for the entire event and parking is free.  Lonestar Roundup is organized by The Kontinentals Car Club.

It only motors into town once a year, so be sure to catch the next time the Lonestar Round Up is here.  I’m Craig Smyser with 1835 Realty.  Thanks for joining me for this episode of Discover Austin.
