Discover Austin: Kalahari Resorts - Episode 92

In this latest episode of Discover Austin, I visit America's largest indoor waterpark at Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in Round Rock.  Don't be fooled though, Kalahari has so much more to offer than just water slides.  If you'd prefer to read about Kalahari, the transcript can be found below the video.

Greetings!  I’m Craig Smyser with 1835 Realty.  Most people don’t think of going to a waterpark on a chilly, rainy day like today.  But the weather doesn’t matter as we visit Kalahari Resort in Round Rock on this episode of Discover Austin.

Kalahari Resort is located across the street from Dell Diamond.  It opened in November 2020 and has become a popular destination for those both inside and outside of Central Texas.  Probably the most popular aspect is the indoor water park.  With over 5 acres under one roof, this is the largest indoor water park in the country.  Of course, there’s a boatload of water slides designed for a wide variety of ages.  There’s a wave pool, a lazy river, The FloRider which is a surfing ride, and several areas designed for younger kids.  But Kalahari didn’t forget the adults as the Grotto is an adults only area with pools and swim-up bar.  You can even reserve a private cabana – including one with your own whirlpool.

Tom Foolery is an almost-two acre indoor adventure park.  It’s got a ropes course, zipline, climbing walls, laser tag, bowling, arcade, and a variety of rides.  There’s definitely something for everyone in this area.

There is an outdoor water park which is available seasonally.

Kalahari has an African theme.  Founder and owner Todd Nelson feel in love with the continent when he visited in the 1990s.  You’ll see the African inspiration throughout the property with sculptures, names, colors, and more.  The word Ubuntu means ‘togetherness’ and is used around the resort.

There are 975 hotel rooms available at Kalahari with 1, 2, and 3 bedroom options.  All hotel stays include both the indoor and outdoor waterparks for the entire day of check-in through the entire day of check-out.  For those not staying at the hotel, tickets are available for most of the attractions at the resort.

There are a dozen restaurants and four bars so you won’t go hungry or thirsty.  The restaurants range from quick bites like pizza and burgers all the way up to great sit down restaurants like the Double Cut Steakhouse.

Take a break from the excitement of the water park to relax at the spa and salon.  They’ve also got a fitness center with private training available.

The Adventurer’s Club features painting, ceramics, tie-dye tshirts, and you can build your own stuffed animal.  Of course, there are a variety of stores and shops throughout the resort.

There’s a 200,000 square foot convention center for major events.  Of course, if your guest list doesn’t number in the thousands, they’ve got smaller venues for weddings, receptions, reunions, and parties.  In fact, they host a lot of children’s birthday parties.

From the waterpark to the adventure park, the convention center to the restaurants, Kalahari has ton of fun things to do so check it out soon.  I’m Craig Smyser with 1835 Realty, thanks for joining me for this episode of Discover Austin.  And remember, when you’re ready to buy or sell a home in Central Texas, I’m ready to help.
