Appraisal District Elections

Are you voting in the appraisal district election?  One facet of the 2023 property tax revisions is that there will now be three elected members on the appraisal district board of directors for counties with populations over 75,000.  The first election is on May 4th.  There are 9 members of the board – five are appointed by the large taxing bodies in the county, one is the county assessor, and now three are elected.  The election for this position is likely going to be both low turnout and low information.  While these are theoretically non-partisan positions, I can assure you those running for the position are not neutral.  In both Travis and Williamson Counties, each of the three positions are being contested this year.  I’d encourage you to take some time to research the candidates then vote in this election.
