6th Street Changes
6th Street is Changing. The Austin city council recently voted to allow taller buildings along part of the historic district on 6th Street. Stream Realty Partners owns around 40 properties along 6th Street including several blocks in which they own them all. So on the north side of 6th Street, between Sabine and Neches, they have some big plans. On one block, they plan to build a hotel with around 150 rooms that will be 5 or 6 stories tall. On the other block, they plan a residential building that would be over 10 stories tall. The on-street parking will be removed and the sidewalk expanded to make it more pedestrian friendly. I haven’t heard how much parking they’ll have with either building. As always, these initial plans will likely change somewhat before they break ground. Time frames for construction haven’t been released yet. These are just the first major changes that will likely happen to 6th Street over the coming years.
