March 2017 Existing Home Sales – Texas & U.S.

Existing home sales are up across the country, including Texas.  Nationally, the number of homes sold increased 8.3% and the median price of a home jumped 6.8% compared to March 2017.  As for Texas, the increases were 6.1% and 9.5% respectively.  More monthly sales statistics for the U.S. and Texas can be found below.  If you’d like to see how the Austin area is performing compared to the rest of Texas and the U.S, visit here. March 2017 Existing Home Sales – Austin

The first two months of 2017 outperformed those of 2016 in terms of the number of homes sold, with and without new construction homes included.  Sadly, in March 2017 we begin to fall slightly short.  Comparatively, March 2017 is down 2.7% (excluding new construction) and down 1.7% (including new construction) from a year ago.  Additional monthly statistics and year-to-date figures are below.  Also, check back in a week or so when the statewide and national sales information become available. Vintage Austin – Travis County Courthouse

In this Vintage Austin photo is the 1876 Travis County Courthouse, then located on the southwest corner of 11th and Congress.  By 1931, the unwanted occupants of the building (rats, pigeons, etc.) forced the county offices to relocate.  Once remodeled, the building became home to State agencies and was renamed the Walton Building.  It remained this way until 1964 when it was demolished.   … [Read more...]

February 2017 Existing Home Sales – Texas & U.S.

February 2017 Existing Home Sales – Austin

February 2017 only outsold February 2016 by 26 resale homes, just a 1.3% increase.  While the number of homes sold is starting to slow, the median price of a resale is still on the rise.  February saw a 9.0% increase compared to a year ago.  Additional sales stats are below for the Austin area, including sales information that includes new construction sales.  For several months, the sale of new construction homes has played a role in helping outpace the year-over-year comparisons, but that too has slowed.  When … [Read more...]
