The property tax assessment protest season is in full swing.  Last week I hosted two workshops on how to lower your appraisals.  I provided data on over 60 properties to folks who attended and the early results are starting to come in - and things are positive for homeowners.  First of all, the wait times at the Travis Central Appraisal District have been minimal, if at all.  Now, today is the last day for walk-in, informal appointments so if you haven't gone by now, you'll need to file your protest notice in order to get an informal and/or formal protest scheduled.  The deadline to file is June 1.  Second, the appraisers are reviewing the market data presented to them and are adjusting the assessments.  Folks who attended the workshops are reporting great success in getting reductions - in fact, I have yet to hear from someone who did not get their assessment lowered.  Finally, no one has conveyed any stories of impolite or uncooperative appraisers.  On the contrary, many of emails and phone calls I am getting report that the appraisers have been very friendly, understanding, and are taking the time to explain how the valuations have been derived and affected by the changes in comps presented by the homeowners.  Overall, it seems to be a good year to be protesting.

If you were unable to attend one of my workshops, but would like some help to determine if you should protest your 2010 Travis County or Williamson County property tax assessment, contact me via email, use the online form, or call me at 512-735-7200.
